Injured Workers Pharmacy (IWP) specializes in workers’ compensation and auto-injury claims, serving as both an advocate and a home-delivery pharmacy. Due to the rise of e-prescribing combined with IWP expanding their service base across the country, IWP needed an solution for their pharmacies which included receiving e-prescriptions for controlled substances. E-prescribing, and particularly the receipt of e-prescriptions of controlled substances, require adhering to standards set by Surescripts and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Surescripts, a network which facilitates the flow of healthcare information, must verify that the provider who sent it to IWP is certified to prescribe controlled substances, and the DEA has its individual set of protocols for the e-prescribing of controlled substances.
Claricode developed back end web services, allowing IWP to integrate smoothly with Surescripts and their internal fulfillment system to handle all of the electronic prescription messaging. Claricode continues to provide technical support to IWP.
