Judges' biographies

Matthew Holt

Matthew Holt, MA, MS

Health care strategist and Author
The Health Care Blog

Matthew Holt has spent more than 15 years in health care as a researcher, generalist forecaster, and strategist. He’s conducted in-depth studies about the health care market, information technology and policy for public release and private clients. He learned from some of the best in forecasting, policy and survey organizations, but these days he’s best known as the author of The Health Care Blog (http://www.thehealthcareblog.com), and as the co-founder of the Health 2.0 Conference. For that he’s been mostly self-taught!

Matthew started his health care career conducting international health policy research at Stanford's Asia Pacific Research Center. At the Institute for the Future, the Menlo Park, CA think-tank, he led projects in healthcare financing, delivery and information technology. At Harris Interactive, the New York-based survey research firm, Matthew conducted two landmark survey research studies, Computing in the Physician's Practice and The 10,000 Patients Study. In his last real job back before 2003, Matthew was Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at i-Beacon.com, an eHealth software company. He holds an MA in Political Science and an MS in Health Services Research from Stanford University.


Doug McClure

Douglas J. McClure, MIM, is Corporate Manager for Technology Services of the Center for Connected Health, a division of Partners Healthcare that is applying communications technology and online resources to improve access and delivery of quality patient care. The Center for Connected Health works with Harvard Medical School-affiliated teaching hospitals, including Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals.

Overseeing telemedicine technology operations, technology research and development, and finance, Mr. McClure is responsible for managing ongoing research programs at the Center for Connected Health. These R&D programs are focused on helping reduce the barriers between patients and clinicians through the use of simple, accessible technologies, such as the Internet, cell phones and digital cameras.

Mr. McClure is currently the Chair of the American Telemedicine Association Technology Special Interest Group, and is a frequent lecturer on connected health and telemedicine. He is also a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the Massachusetts Technology Council and the Project Management Institute.

Mr. McClure received his Masters in International Management from the University of Denver.


Brigitte Piniewski

Brigitte Piniewski, MD is the Director of BioWellness Research at Oregon Medical Laboratories and Co-Chair of the Continua Health Alliance, Wellness Solutions Working Group. She earned her medical degree from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C. and completed her internship at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. Dr. Piniewski is a primary care specialist who has several years of international experience, including both the US and Canada. Dr Piniewski is skilled in connecting expert insights from the fields of clinical medicine, scientific research, corporate wellness, and high-tech innovation to demonstrate the alignments that ultimately support scalable optimization of population health. Dr Piniewski is the principle author of “Connected Personal Health 2015” a future vision paper that received a “Continua Key Contributor” award and has been well received by US, EU and Japanese audiences.


Neil Rouda

The MedTech Publishing Company produces award winning print and digital publications such as Healthcare IT News, NHINWatch.com, MobileHealthWatch.com, and Healthcare Finance News.

Neil Rouda has spent more than 20 years in the business-to-business publishing industry at top-flight publishing companies including Gorman Publishing (now part of Reed Business Information), Time, Inc., PennWell, United Publications and Hanley-Wood. He has experience in a variety of fabric-of-America industries including healthcare, and has served as publisher of Prepared Foods, Turf, HME News (home medical equipment), The Journal of Light Construction and Remodeling magazines.

Mr. Rouda has also had considerable experience launching and repositioning publications. He guided HME News from its third issue leading it to the top of its field in just five years. At Hanley-Wood, he served as publisher for the launch of Replacement Contractor magazine. He also led substantial reposition and redesign efforts at Turf, the network of regional green-industry magazines, and at food industry stalwart, Prepared Foods.

Mr. Rouda is an active member of American Business Media, the business-to-business media national trade association, and served as chairman of its Publisher's Committee in 2001 and 2002.


Ken Tubman

As CEO, Ken Tubman is responsible for managing the company, formulating and executing long-term strategies, and for all interactions with clients, employees and other stakeholders.

Prior to becoming chief executive officer, Ken served as the Claricode’s Chief Operations Officer, and was responsible for a variety of functions including software development, project management and quality assurance. Under his leadership as COO, he helped install a more rigorous software development process and maintain quality during a period of rapid growth.

Prior to Claricode, Ken served as the Development and Program Manager for Eclipsys Corporation’s Sunrise Access Manager product. Sunrise Access Manager is an inpatient product that includes EMPI, patient location management, insurance eligibility verification, medical necessity checking, and integrated enterprise scheduling. While at Eclipsys, he provided Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) training to the entire product team, and organized a Software Review Board to triage incoming defects.

Before Eclipsys, Ken served in the Development/Project Manager role for a variety of companies and organizations, including the City of New York, Daticon Systems, Reebok, and Titleist/Foot-Joy Worldwide.
