- No purchase necessary. Each student may only submit one essay. Each student must complete the official entry form and submit it on or before October 31, 2010 with an original essay (500-1,000 words) on the topic of "Healthcare should be more like..." There are many soundly running industries outside of healthcare that could serve as a good example to the healthcare industry. In 500 - 1000 words, identify an example of this and explain how that industry's processes could help make healthcare delivery more efficient..
- The Claricode Medical Software Scholarship competition is open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) 18 years or older, who, as of October 31, 2010, is enrolled as a full-time student of an accredited college or university at the time of entry, and who remains enrolled in a college or university when the scholarship is awarded in January 2011.
All other entries will be disqualified. Prize winners of past Claricode essay competition(s) and employees (and their immediate families) of Claricode, customers, and affiliates are ineligible.
- All entries, online or mail-in, must be received no later than October 31, 2010, to be eligible for the contest.
- Students may enter the Contest from the Internet.
Students may enter by visiting the Claricode website at http://www.claricode.com/scholarship/ and following the instructions to complete and submit an official online entry form. As part of a student's entry, the student will be asked to provide his or her first and last name, email address, permanent address and phone number, date of birth, the name and address of the college/university he or she is currently attending, in addition to the required essay.
Claricode does not assume responsibility for lost, late, misdirected, and incomplete entries, all of which will be disqualified.
By Mail:
As of this year, mail in entries are no longer accepted. This is a contest about the benefits of software, so we feel that it no longer makes sense to accept mail in entries.
- Essays must be original, not in the public domain, factually accurate, and must not infringe or violate any law or the legal or equitable right of any person or entity, nor contain material that infringes or violates any personal property rights of others or that constitutes defamation, invasion of privacy, an infringement of the intellectual property rights of any third person, or is otherwise unlawful. By submitting an essay, each student acknowledges his or her understanding of and compliance with these rules. Claricode reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed inappropriate for publication, at its discretion. Essays will be judged by prescreening groups consisting of qualified Claricode employees, and then by a final judging panel. The decisions of the judges will be final.
- Essays will be judged on the following five criteria:
- Creativity (20%)
- Practicality (20%)
- Development and organization of ideas and examples (25%)
- Clarity of vision for a non-technical audience (25%)
- Grammar and Spelling (10%)
- Prizes and Honorable Mentions

Additionally there may be up to 10 that receive honorable mentions without scholarship funds. Winning essays, as well as any other essays, may be published by Claricode, Inc. and the submission of an entry to Claricode shall constitute consent to such publication. In the event of a tie, the essay with the higher score for creativity will win.
- The likelihood of winning will depend upon the quality of all other entries as judged by the criteria stated above. Prizes are nontransferable. All prizes will be awarded. In the event an applicant is no longer enrolled in a college or university on the award date, the Scholarship will be granted to the next highest scoring submission. Competition is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Winner will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes associated with receipt of the Scholarship funds. Within 10 days of the date specified in the notification, winner will be required to execute an affidavit of originality, eligibility, and compliance with rules, a release of liability and grant of publication rights, or the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner. Winner must provide a street address where Claricode can mail the winners a publicity release, affidavit of eligibility, and if applicable, a tax form.
- All essays and all rights to their publication become the property of Claricode, which may use, edit and excerpt these entries for promotional or any other purpose, including placing them online (e.g., on www.claricode.com) without attribution or compensation, additional or otherwise. Claricode reserves the right to use prizewinners' names, college names, and hometowns in any advertising or promotional materials relating to this competition without further notification, permission, or compensation to the winners, except where prohibited by law.
- Winners will be selected during the month of November 2010, and will be notified by mail. Winners will also be posted online at http://www.claricode.com/scholarship/. For the names of winners, send a separate, stamped self-addressed envelope by February 1st, 2011, to: Claricode Medical Software Scholarship, 716 Main St, 2nd Floor, Waltham, MA 02451. Requests received after February 1st, 2011, will not be answered.
